10 Crazy Fun Things to Do in Miami Beach

things to do in miami beach - infographicIn a place known for so many amazing things, it is hard to choose what to do on your visit to Miami. If you want a trip full of fun, one-of-a-kind experiences, here are ten crazy fun things to do in Miami Beach.

1. Have a Relaxing Day at Haulover Park

If you’re like most people, when you think of Miami, you think of outdoor activities and spending the day in the sun. Haulover Park is a great place to do just that. Haulover Park combines green space with a large beach and waterfront area, so you get the best of both worlds in one location.

While many of Miami’s beaches are private, Haulover Beach is public, so you can enjoy your day without blowing your travel budget. The beach also offers several unique features to make your day memorable. The beach is dog-friendly, unlike most Miami beaches, so you can bring your pooch or just enjoy watching other visitors’ dogs play in the surf and sand; no leashes are required in the “bark park” area of the beach.

There are picnic areas available (including grills) as well as food and beverage concessions. If you can make it on a Tuesday, you’ll be in for a real treat: the Tuesday evening food truck “festival.” Enjoy food from a variety of local food trucks, accompanied by a live DJ.

For even more beach fun, there is boating and kite-flying available, as well as a skate park. And perhaps the most unique aspect of Hanover Beach: a clothing-optional but a family-friendly area of the beach is available as well. If you’re interested in the nude beach experience, Haulover Beach is a must for your Miami Beach itinerary.

2. Take in a Concert at the North Beach Bandshell

One great way to enjoy the perfect Miami weather all day long is to add an outdoor concert to your evening. North Beach Bandshell offers amazing views and an open-air venue so you can feel the ocean breeze while you listen to diverse global musical offerings.

Or, catch a daytime concert and then join in some nearby beach volleyball or walk the adjacent Beach Walk to visit Allison Park and its sea turtle sculptures.

3. Experience the Miami Club Scene at LIV

If there is any place that defines Miami Beach nightlife, it is LIV, and with a recent $10 million renovation, it truly can’t be missed. Any night at LIV will give you a chance to enjoy its amazing and historic architecture, its innovative light and sound, and the overall atmosphere that makes it famous around the world.

But for the full LIV experience, plan to attend LIV on Sunday, their weekly hip hop dance party. You’ll need to make an effort for this one – tickets are in very high demand, and it can be hard to get in! But if you can make it happen, it will be one of the most memorable parts of your trip.

4. Connect with Wildlife at Monkey Jungle

If you love animals, you won’t want to miss Monkey Jungle. This conservation-focused park is designed to allow their approximately three hundred monkeys and apes to live in a tropical rainforest environment as much as possible, just as they would live in the wild. You can see Java monkeys diving in their swimming pool, observe how the gorillas interact, and see the endangered Golden Lion Tamarin.

In general, Monkey Jungle is designed so that the animals can roam freely and behave naturally, keeping the human visitors in separate areas like tunnels. But sometimes, they offer guided tours that allow guests to go into the jungle areas and interact directly with the monkeys, so be sure to check the website to see whether any of these special offerings are available during your visit!

5. Watch the Sun Rise at South Pointe Park

South Pointe Park is one of the most beautiful spots in Miami Beach and a must-visit for any Miami tourist. The park is, just as its name suggests, at the far end of Miami Beach, giving you an amazing view of the ocean, the nearby beaches, the city, and the many enormous cruise ships coming in and out of port.

Enjoy the beach area or the green park space, explore the pier, and take the kids to the playground and splashground. If you’re up for it, come very early and take in the sunrise; with the panoramic views South Pointe Park provides, it’s well worth the lost sleep.

As an added bonus, one of Miami Beach’s most famous restaurants, Joe’s Stone Crab, is right nearby. If you don’t have the patience to wait in the crazy long lines, check out the neighboring takeout option and take your food right on back to the park.

6. Try Clubbing with a Twist at Basement

Miami is known for its clubs and nightlife, but Basement offers a truly different take on the experience. At Basement, you get a “micro-club” with DJ, lighting and projection shows, drinks, and all you expect from the club experience without the sometimes overwhelming feeling of the really large Miami nightclubs.

But along with the typical club setting, Basement offers a neon-lit bowling alley where your entire bowling experience is its own light show. Making bowling a whole new experience, Basement has even had artists design its bowling shoes. Add in upscale food in place of traditional bowling-alley fare, and Basement Bowl might be your favorite part of the night.

But if a club and a hip approach to bowling aren’t enough for one night, Basement also offers indoor ice-skating. Bringing the same great music and light shows to this part of the venue, Basement makes ice skating (something you might not think to do in Miami Beach!) amazing.

7. Experience Interactive Digital Art at Artechouse

When you could use a little time out of the sun, check out the unique, interactive digital art on display at Artechouse. Artechouse describes itself as “at the crossroads of art, science, and technology.” It’s not a traditional art gallery. This is art that surrounds you with sound and light, art that you can touch and explore.

There is even an associated mobile app to download in advance to enrich your experience further, giving you additional interaction points throughout the exhibits. You will be talking about Artechouse long after your visit!

8. Attend a Drag Brunch at Palace

Palace is a can’t-miss Miami experience. Enjoy the location on iconic Ocean Drive, the beautiful beach views, the drinks and food, and most importantly – the drag shows!

The Drag Brunch on Sundays is an especially good choice. Relax and enjoy for two hours of great food and entertainment, Miami style. You’ll laugh and maybe shriek. And, unlimited mimosas – what’s not to like?

9. Pamper Yourself at the Russian and Turkish Baths

When you need to rest and rejuvenate after days of Miami partying but still want to do it with a Miami twist, try a visit to the Russian and Turkish Baths. This spa has all the services you’re used to, including massage, saunas, detoxifying wraps and treatments, and spa food (Russian style!).

But, unlike many of the spas you may have experienced, the Russian and Turkish Baths are all about having a shared experience of relaxation and health. So, you’ll enjoy a steaming, bathing, and other treatments in a group setting. It’s a different and fun twist on the usual spa day.

10. Fill Up Your Camera Roll at Wynwood Walls

Wynwood Walls is an outdoor art exhibit with enormous murals and graffiti art from a wide range of artists. There are more than 35 murals and sculptures to explore. Get creative and memorialize your visit – a quick peek at Instagram will give you lots of fun ideas for taking photos of yourself with the amazing art at Wynwood Walls.

If you want to dig a little deeper, you can also visit the Wynwood Walls Gallery to learn about its history and the art displayed there over the past ten years.
